Cotton is a popular fabric, known for its comfort, versatility, and breathability. It is a natural fiber that is used across various clothing and home textiles. Purex® shares common items that are made with cotton and how to properly care for them.
Cotton is used across a wide range of clothing. Since it’s a breathable fabric, it’s great for everyday wear. This includes t-shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, and trousers.
In warmer months, people will use cotton bedding as the fabric is soft and light. Cotton is commonly used in sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers.
Since cotton is easy to care for and treat stains, cotton is found in tablecloths, napkins, and placemats.
Sort cotton items based on light and dark colors as the garments need to be washed in different temperatures. To properly wash, use cool water for dark colored clothes, warm for colors, and hot for whites. Use the gentle cycle when possible, or the normal setting for more heavily soiled clothing. For tough stains, Purex® recommends Advanced Oxi + Coldwater Power liquid laundry detergent. It’s perfect for tackling stubborn stains like grass, wine, and chocolate.
Tumble dry the cotton in the dryer to help keep the item looking brand new. If the cotton fabric is stained, check to make sure the stain is completely removed. If placed in the dryer, the stain could set into the fabric and become permanent.
