As the weather warms up, grills are being pulled out of storage, dusted off, and cleaned up. Burgers are being carefully crafted, and steaks are being delicately marinated. Each of us have a favorite barbecue sauce with the savory taste that makes our mouths water! But what happens when our favorite grill chef has a mishap and ends up with the savory sauce across his or her clothes?
Step 1: Scrape off Any Excess Barbeque Sauce
As with a lot of stains, barbecue sauce is one of those stains that is best tackled while it is still fresh. Carefully scrape off any excess sauce without spreading the stain around, either using a spoon or a blunt knife. Then turn the article of clothing inside out and run warm water through the back side of the stain. This will rinse out the stain without driving it further into the fibers.
Step 2: Pre-Treat the BBQ Sauce Stain with Stain Remover
If you are lucky, maybe you have removed all of the stain. If not, do not despair! Grab your favorite stain remover, turn the clothing article right side out, and spray the stain with the stain remover. Gently rub it into the stain and let sit for five minutes.
If you don’t have a stain remover available, we recommend common household products like dish soap or white vinegar. Both are great for breaking down the stain, making it easier to remove and remove any unpleasant odor that may linger.
Step 3: Soak in Cold Water
After applying the stain remover, soak the clothing in warm water for 30 minutes. This will help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove before you put the clothing in the washing machine.
Step 4: Launder As You Normally Would
Then launder as you normally would, using the warmest water that the clothing will allow for.
If you want an extra boost of to help remove the stain, grab a bottle of Purex ® plus Oxi Liquid detergent to wash your laundry. As always, inspect the article of clothing out of the washer, before you place it in the dryer. If the stain has not been removed to your liking, repeat the process of pretreating the stain and wash.
In conclusion, barbeque sauce stains can be a pain, but with these tips and tricks, you can easily remove them from your clothes. Remember to act quickly, use the right solution, and wash with hot water to get the best results. Happy barbequing!
