How to Remove Gravy Stains From Clothes

Crisp autumn air, beautiful fall colors; it must be November! This also means that the long awaited holidays are upon us. Many of us will spend Thanksgiving with friends and family, carving a turkey, enjoying all of the holiday fixin’s. Hopefully there will be no spills, but there is always that chance that a piece of turkey coated in gravy makes its way to your shirt. If not handled properly, gravy could leave a stain on your clothing if not handled properly.

How To Remove Gravy Stains

1.) Remove Any Excess Gravy

Before treating the gravy stain, try to carefully scrape off any gravy that might be sitting on the surface of the shirt. You can do this step while you’re still wearing the shirt. This will help not make the stain any worse.

2.) Apply Club Soda to the Gravy Stain

If you have club soda, carefully dab at the with a cloth soaked in club soda. This will help to lift some of the fresh stain.

3.) Spray with Stain Remover

Gravy causes a greasy stain, which is best tackled with an enzyme containing formula. Lay the shirt on a clean surface and spray the stain with any stain remover. Let the stain sit with the stain remover for five minutes before placing in the wash.

4.) Run Stained Clothing Through Washing Machine

Following the washing instructions of the clothing item, run the stained clothing item through your washing machine. For an added boost in stain removal, use Purex® Advanced Oxi + Coldwater Power liquid detergent, which is also an enzyme containing stain removal.

5.) Place Clothing in the Dryer

Before moving the stained clothing item to the dryer, inspect the original gravy stained area. If the stain still exists, try repeating steps 1-4. It’s important to make sure the stain is completely removed before placing the item in the dryer. If not removed, the heat from your dryer will cause the stain to be permanently set in your clothes.
