How to Remove Cranberry Sauce Stains

One of the favorite fixings for any holiday meal is cranberry sauce. If you are lucky, a stop at your local grocery store provides you with this beloved side dish. However, if you are like my family, cranberry sauce must be made from fresh cranberries. Now the risk of stains increases increases from being put within the path of the of the cooking, and popping, cranberries. How difficult are cranberry stains to remove? Purex® shares tips on how to remove cranberry sauce stains from your clothing & other fabrics.

Remove the Cranberry Stain as Soon as Possible

They are definitely a stain that you want to get to as soon as possible. The fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove. Checking the fabric care tag first, run the warmest water the fabric can withstand through the stain from the back.

How to Remove Cranberry Stains on White Fabrics

If the stain is on a white article of clothing, soak the stain in a mixture of bleach and water. Use 3 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of cold water & let the garment sit for approximately five minutes. Then launder as usual using your favorite detergent – my new favorite are Purex® Detergent with Crystals Fragrance! It's available in great scents like Fresh Lavender Blossom & Tahitian Breeze.

Wash the Stained Garment with Similar Colors

Piece of advice: wash the item that was soaked in bleach with other whites or on its own. Mixing with other colored fabrics might cause bleach to be transferred from the treated article, forming bleach spots on your favorite colored shirts.

How to Remove Cranberry Stains on Colored Fabrics

If the unfortunate stain is on a colored fabric, a good stain removing detergent to use is Purex® Advanced Oxi + Coldwater Power liquid detergent. You can pour this directly on the stain and gently rub into the stain. Let the stain sit for five minutes and then launder as usual. This detergent is made with the power of Oxi, so it's perfect for tackling those tough stains, like cranberry sauce. As always, check to make sure the cranberry sauce stain is fully removed before placing the garment in the dryer or the stain could set.

As always, happy stain fighting and happy holidays to you and your family! For other holiday related stains, view how to remove gravy stains or red wine stains.
